Sharp Electronics and Intertop Corporation Team to Deliver Vertical Solutions for the Mobile Computing Professional

SARATOGA, Calif. — November 2, 1998 — Partnership Drives Pervasive Use of Handheld PC Devices in Corporate America

Sharp Electronics Corporation, a world leader in mobile computing solutions, and Intertop Corporation, an emerging leader of Internet solutions that enable businesses to develop and deploy fast, efficient business applications, today announced a partnership to deliver technology for building vertical solutions for handheld PC devices that run on the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE Version 2.1 operating system.

Announced today, Intertop is delivering Intertop CE Application Builder(TM) (Editor's note: see related release dated November 2, 1998), an integrated development environment for creating small footprint multi-tier Internet applications for Windows CE handheld devices such as the Sharp Mobilon, Tripad and Mobilon Pro. With the Intertop Application Platform, which offers concurrent development and deployment of both the client and server sides of Windows CE and Java applications, corporations can create one application that can be accessed by any client, including handheld PC computers, workstations, Java browsers and network computers.

"Sharp is pleased to be partnering with Intertop to offer corporations applications that are robust and run efficiently on Sharp's family of Mobilon handheld computers," said Stephen Wain, associate vice president and general manager of Sharp's Corporate Sales Division. "Intertop has advanced technology that enables multi-tier Internet applications to be run directly from the handheld PC devices. This will greatly benefit mobile customers who need to access critical business Internet applications."

Sharp's line of handheld devices was developed to be tightly linked to corporate systems as well as increasing the functionality for vertical field applications. Sharp and Intertop are working together with their system integrators to deliver these applications. For example, a real estate application was developed with Intertop CE Application Builder(TM) that is integrated with the Sharp Mobilon and Color Digital Camera Card. Real estate personnel can use the Intertop application with the Mobilon to photograph and add updated listings to showcase and display sites for sales and marketing.

"We are interested in exploring new opportunities that handheld devices can offer active professionals," said Lem Lloyd, manager of strategic alliances, Knight Ridder New Media, owners of the RealCities.com network. "We're flattered that Intertop and Sharp chose to highlight our nationwide real estate web service, HomeHunter.com, in their demonstration at Comdex."

"With Sharp's state-of-the-art, high performance handheld devices and Intertop's innovative software technology, we are extending how handheld devices are used in corporations by allowing mobile users to run multi-tier Internet applications," added Dr. Thomas Li, President and founder of Intertop Corporation. "Sharp, the leader in the small device arena, and our new partnership are big plusses for our customers. Companies will now realize the benefits of anytime, anywhere access."
