V-ONE and Sharp Electronics form Alliance to Target Windows CE Vertical Markets with Sales and Marketing Effort

GERMANTOWN, Md. — December 17, 1999 — V-ONE's SmartGate, the Only VPN for Windows CE, and Sharp's Mobilon Handheld PC Devices Offer Business-Essential Mobile Security for the Enterprise

V-ONE(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: VONE), a leading provider of client/server Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), today announced that they have joined with Sharp Electronics Corporation to form a strategic alliance that will target specific vertical markets for VPN-secured connectivity over handheld PCs.

Joint sales and marketing initiatives by the two companies promoting V-ONE's SmartGate VPN for Windows(R) CE from Microsoft(R) (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Sharp's Mobilon(TM) line of handheld PCs will enable specific sectors, most notably health care, to extend the enterprise with maximum end user convenience while providing unmatched functionality, mobility and security.

Sharp's line of Mobilon products uses the Windows CE Operating System (OS) to extend the easy-to-use interface of Windows to handheld PCs and provides access to pocket versions' of programs already familiar to the user, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint(R) and Internet Explorer.

With unique features such as ergonomic keyboard design, 360 degree swiveling screens and real-time wireless capability, Mobilon handheld PCs are increasingly important components of enterprise deployments today.

SmartGate for Windows CE permits handheld PCs, connected wirelessly or via conventional network cables, to protect critical applications with a commensurate level of security that was previously available only for desktop and laptop PCs.

SmartGate's mutual and two-factor authentication, fine-grained access control and "export anywhere" Triple DES (Digital Encryption Standard) U.S. encryption allow an organization's most sensitive data to be shared securely with users in the field.

Both SmartGate for Windows CE and Sharp Mobilon handheld PCs work with the ICA(R) Client from Citrix(R) Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS) to provide Thin Client technology that enables widespread application access for mobile devices.

"We believe there are several large industries with a strong need for wireless application access protected with high security," said David D. Dawson, CEO of V-ONE Corporation. "As an example, physicians can use SmartGate for Windows CE to immediately access new lab test results, and change medications accordingly, from virtually anywhere. By working with Sharp and their highly-regarded Mobilon product line, we can present a compelling solution to the enterprise wanting to tap into the broad capabilities and convenience of handheld PCs."

"Handheld PCs are becoming essential tools for the enterprise and our Mobilon line offers unique advantages for these deployments," said Rich Martens, marketing manager, mobile information systems group with Sharp Electronics Corporation. "Strong VPN security from V-ONE permits us to satisfy a very critical issue for today's IT managers who realize the need to extend their range and flexibility with handheld PCs."
