Dauphin Licenses PenRight! for DTR-1
FREMONT, Calif. — March 28, 1994 — PenRight! Corporation announced Monday that Dauphin Technology's DTR-1 will support PenRight! and the more than 800 applications currently available under the PenRight! operating environment.
The DTR-1 has been officially certified by PenRight! and now has access to the largest base of mobile applications developed for pen computing in such industries as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, public safety and consumer goods.
"We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to offer the growing community of PenRight! developers such a powerful, multi-featured platform to run their applications," said Mike Hulthen, PenRight! president. "By licensing PenRight! for the DTR-1, Dauphin can offer customers proven pen solutions today."
The award-winning DTR-1 has received industry-wide recognition for its innovative design. The 2.5 lb. unit is a lightweight, handheld computer that integrates the portability of a subnotebook, the convenience of pen input and the functionality of a desktop.
As the world's smallest 486 computer, DTR-1 gives users everything they need without the bulk, including: 4 to 8 MB of RAM, 80 MB compressed hard disk storage, built-in fax modem, optional Ethernet, standard I/O ports, and a backlit 640 x 480 VGA display.
"PenRight! represents a new and exciting operating environment for our line of pen-based products," said Alan Young, Dauphin president and CEO. "The large PenRight! developer community provides greater access to targeted vertical markets, such as government, healthcare, sales, utility companies, and other data collection fields. The DTR-1's small form factor and intuitive pen interface, combined with PenRight!'s minimal memory and storage requirements, will offer many of our customers a complete solution."
Built on the MS-DOS operating system, PenRight! is a pencentric handwriting and graphical user interface platform which utilizes a windowing, form driven paradigm. The environment contains a number of user features for pen applications including upper and lower case character recognition and gestures. The software development tools used to create its 1000 plus applications include PenRight! Pro, PadBase and Power Pen Pal.
