Are You Ready for a STICI?

In case you don’t have enough acronyms and abbreviations to keep track of, there’s yet another one lurking in the wings as handheld systems such as the Newton emerge: the STICI (pronounced “sticky”), which stands for Self-Teaching Interpretive Communicating Interface. We first came across this latest hot abbreviation in a press release from BIS Strategic Decisions, entitled “Apple Goes From GUI to STICI.”

We’ve always had trouble getting used to “gooey” and we’re certainly not ready to start talking about “stickies.” In addition, Self-Teaching Interpretive Communicating Interface is sort of a pompous way to describe the Intelligent Assistant or other easy-to-use interfaces.

How about calling them ETUIs (pronounced EE-TOO-EE), which stands for easy-to-use interface. Or maybe just call it the “Newton interface” — there are too many abbreviations as it is.
