With the success of mail order and home-based shopping in the United States, the prospect for electronic shopping on the new information super-highway seems encouraging.
Leading the way is San Mateo, California-based eShop. On January 6th, 1993, eShop announced that AT&T will license its electronic shopping technology for use with the equally new Telescript-based PersonaLink network.
eShop, founded in 1992, is aiming high by developing its electronic shopping system to serve multiple platforms ranging from personal communicators, to desktop computers and television sets.
Realizing that shopping through an electronic network may present extra challenges to new users, the company is making maximum use of the power of the medium by providing customers with a personalized electronic shopping assistant that remembers customer’s preferences and can guide them to areas of interest.
During a time when retailers are looking for ways to increase customer service, “eShop provides merchants with the ultimate narrowcast marketing tool” said Leslie Noble, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at eShop.
Merchants will also be able to take advantage of the extra flexibility that electronic shopping promises by changing layout, pricing, product mix, and promotions literally overnight.
eShop also announced that users of the Magic CAP platform will be the first to have access to the eShop service.
