Toronto forms Newton User Group

Recent purchasers of the new Newton MessagePad from Apple have a few things in common: First, they are close to a thousand dollars lighter. Second, it’s easy to get frustrated with the recognition, resets, and system errors. Third, the more people use the intuitive little device, the more one’s life becomes dependant on it.

Most importantly, there is a desperate need to find out more about the device, including information about what new hardware and software is available, what others are using the device for, and how others have solved the problems you’ve been experiencing.

Not much can be done about the first three points, however, the Toronto area now has a new forum in which to discuss and exchange information about their favorite PDA. Dubbed the “Group of Newton Users in Toronto” (GNUT – pronounced NEWT), the forum is aimed at business professionals who are users of Newton-based devices.

The GNUT meetings have been held bi-monthly since the group’s first formal meeting at the beginning of October 1993. The location of the meetings change depending on member’s donation of the meeting space. Since members are all connected online (via Compuserve, Internet, MAGIK BBS, etc.) the meeting details can be distributed quickly and easily.
