HP & Novell Dip Into PDA Market

Geoworks, the Berkeley California company that produces the GEOS operating system used on Sharp, Tandy, and Casio PDAs, is beginning to appear all over the industry. Now, leading computer and network developers Hewlett-Packard and Novell have added Geoworks to their list as well.

In March 1994, both companies took an undisclosed equity position in Geoworks in the belief that the GEOS environment is well suited to expand the core businesses of each company. In the case of HP, this means the class of high-volume, low-cost consumer devices.

Novell, on the other hand, views this as another way to extend the network to the truly mobile professional.
