LiveWorks Enhances Whiteboard Pen Computing

Demonstrating that stylus-based systems are suitable at all levels of the computing food chain, LiveWorks, Inc., a Xerox company, has announced the availability of LiveBoard 3, a multi-site shared computer whiteboard.

LiveBoard 3 features a 66 MHz, 486-based PC which users can upgrade to a Pentium processor. The board also includes a 14.4 Kbps data/fax modem which is used to communicate between sites in the conferencing mode.

The new LiveBoard comes equipped with LiveWork’s MeetingBoard 3.0 interactive whiteboard software. The software, which runs under Microsoft Windows, enables users to conference 31 geographically dispersed LiveBoards together.

Once connected, users write with a wireless pen and create on-screen images that are instantly accessible to all. In this way, users can display and annotate popular documents created in Excel, Powerpoint, or other applications.

The LiveBoard 3 features a 67-inch rear projection display that is capable of displaying up to 256,000 colors. The size of the case has been reduced to 78 from 83-inches in height.

LiveWorks claims that the new version offers a six times improvement in uniformity. This makes images clearer on the edges and the center of the screen. In addition, the screen features 20 percent increased contrast that makes it easier to view at a wider range of angles.

The LiveBoard enables you to establish connections to remote sites over conventional phone lines, as well as TCP/IP and NetBIOS networks. At $34,900, the new price is also 30 percent less than the previous version of LiveBoard.

LiveWorks offers a free upgrade to the MeetingBoard 3.0 software for users of the LiveBoard 2, introduced in May 1993.
