Silicon Casino: Play, Learn, and Save

Though several computer programs are available to play casino-style games, none can actually replace the thrill of playing in a genuine casino—until you lose. Casady & Greene has released a very engaging program for the Newton called Silicon Casino featuring the most popular casino games.

The program, which requires 540 KB of storage, includes blackjack, craps, baccarat, video poker, and the slots.

Silicon Casino is a highly graphical game, and simulates as much of the physical aspects of gambling as possible—which, after all, is much of the fun involved in gambling. For example, you drag one or more chips when betting in blackjack, and pull the arm on the slot machine.

When you start the game, the screen displays a small casino floor, with a graphical representation of each of the tables and machines that you can play. Tapping a location takes you to that area where you can play the game.

The program supplies you with $200 in cash, and enables you to borrow money when you dip below $100. As you would expect, you carry your money from game to game—as in real life, money doesn’t appear in your pocket from nowhere.

Silicon Casino also includes on-line help and hints for each of the games. The performance of the program is very good, keeping your attention while you learn. Overall, the program is a lot of fun to play and may even prove useful come next Fall COMDEX.
