CIC Handwriter Recognition System and PenDOS Software Bundled with MicroSlate Provides Pen Computing for Mobile Workers

February 1, 1994 —  Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC) (NASDAQ-NMS: CICI) announced that its award-winning Handwrit-er(R) Recognition System (HRS) software is bundled with the MicroSlate Datellite 400L for both CIC PenDOS(R) and Microsoft Windows(TM) for Pen Computing.

Available for U.S. and U.K. English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese languages, the HRS software recognizes handwritten input on pen-based computers. Offering a natural input style especially well suited for portable computing, HRS allows users to more efficiently and effectively interact with the Datellite 400L pen-tablet than does the standard Windows for Pen recognizer. CIC’s Handwriter Recognition System has received the “Best Recognizer” award at the last two PenExpos, sponsored by Boston University and Pen Magazine during 1993.

“Reliable handwriting recognition, efficient and ease-of-use pen operating environments, as well as high performance and competitively priced hardware, are critical to the growth of the pen computing market,” said Jan Rowinski, vice president of operations at MicroSlate Inc. “MicroSlate’s goal is to meet the user’s needs with a competitive full function, rugged field use model designed to NATO specifications — while still providing corporate users with sophisticated functionality. Utilizing CIC’s superior Handwriter Recognition System software enables us to meet that goal, on both the CIC PenDOS and Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing platforms.”

MicroSlate joins the growing line up of OEMs such as NEC Corporation and Fujitsu Ltd., who have bundled CIC’s Handwriting Recognition System with CIC’s own PenDOS and Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing.

CIC’s PenDOS pen operating environment is specifically designed to transform major existing mouse-aware DOS applications into pen-aware applications, without modification, as well as to facilitate the development of new pencentric applications. PenDOS is implemented on the Datellite 400L which supports the DOS operating system. Combined with Handwriter Recognition System software from CIC, PenDOS allows MicroSlate Inc. to offer its customers a dynamic pen computing solution, worldwide.
