CIC Hosts PenLABS Pen Computing Technology Conference in Japan

November 5, 1992 — Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC) (NASDAQ:CICI) Thursday announced that its Nov. 6 PenLABS pen computing technology seminar, in Japan, will feature leaders from the Japanese computer market providing an update on pen computing technology and the United States, European, and Japanese pen computing markets.

The PenLABS Executive Seminar will take place at the Takanawa Price Hotel in Tokyo, with a formal reception immediately following.

Featured speakers at the PenLABS conference include CIC president and CEO, James Dao, and executives from IBM, Justsystem Corporation, Microsoft, NEC and NCR Japan. CIC will also make detailed presentations using the English and Japanese versions of CIC’s PenDOS 2.0 pen operating environment and CIC’s Handwriter Recognition Systems on a variety of hardware platforms. An audience of over 100 product planning and marketing representatives from Japanese hardware manufacturing companies and software vendors have pre-registered to attend.

“PenLAB Seminars are CIC’s answer to the strong demand and interest for pen computing in the Japanese market, the world’s fastest growing computer market,” noted James Dao, CIC president and CEO. “Education is a critical step in building the market as pen computing hardware and software products become more broadly available. CIC is pleased at the enthusiastic response to PenLABS in Japan, and pleased to have the opportunity to again demonstrate our commitment to this growing market.”

PenDOS 2.0 is the latest version of CIC’s small, fast, and memory efficient pen operating environment for the DOS platform. Combined with new versions of CIC’s core technologies — Handwriter Recognition Systems version 3.0 and the Handwriter Dynamic Signature Verification — PenDOS 2.0 is specifically designed to develop new pencentric applications and to transform the thousands of existing mouse-aware applications into pen-aware applications, without modification.

CIC’s MacHandwriter II, with improved handwriting recognition, graphical input capabilities, and a new pen computing user interface, makes a powerful desktop pen computing system when combined with the Macintosh personal computer and Apple’s new KanjiTalk 7 operating system.

Simply by connecting the MacHandwriter II tablet to a Macintosh personal computer and Apple’s new KanjiTalk 7 operating system, Japanese characters (kanji, hiragana, katakana), alphanumberics, and symbols are written directly and naturally into the computer using a tablet and pen. MacHandwriter II runs Macintosh applications including word processors, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, and graphics software packages.
