DATA RACE Announces OEM Agreement with EO

February 24, 1993 — DATA RACE (NASDAQ:RACE) today announced that it has an agreement with EO, Inc. (Mountain View, Calif.) to be OEM supplier for the EO internal V.32bis FAX/Modem.

Under the terms of the agreement, DATA RACE has designed and is manufacturing a high-speed 14,400 bps V.32bis modem with 9,600 bps FAX send and receive capabilities. The modem, designed and developed to meet EO’s specific and unique requirements, is fully integrated into the EO 440 and 880 Personal Communicators. The EO 440 and 880 employ a pen-based interface to integrate and manage communications functions including cellular phone, FAX, e-mail, and PC connectivity. The hand-held units are equipped with AT&T’s 32-bit Hobbit RISC microprocessor and GO Corporation’s PenPoint operating system.

The DATA RACE internal modem in the EO computer is closely integrated with the internal cellular telephone in the computer. All audio signals to be sent over the cellular telephone pass through analog switching circuits on the mo-dem. The internal modem provides all of DATA RACE’s Cellular Ready features to ensure excellent throughput over the cellular telephone link for both data and facsimile. Among the Cellular Ready features DATA RACE offers are:

  • Adjustable transmitter level
  • Adjustable packet size (V.42 and MNP)
  • Automatic fall-forward and fall-back speed switching
  • Automatic link analysis and speed selection
  • User-selectable modulation type
  • User-selectable minimum and maximum link speeds
