For many mobile professionals, contact management is an important task that needs to go with them when they are away from the desk and the desktop. Users of Symantec’s popular ACT! contact management system now have a new mobile option: ACT! for Newton. Using the new version, people will now be able to directly synchronize information between their PDA and desktop database. ACT! for Newton follows Symantec’s earlier release of ACT! for Psion and ACT! for Hewlett-Packard Palmtops.
As with the desktop versions, currently available for both Macintosh and Windows PCs, users can examine and maintain names, addresses, and phone numbers, along with 54 customizable fields. Each contact also includes a notepad enabling you to record more detailed observations about meetings, conversations, or anything else. ACT! for Newton automatically logs all your completed activities for your contacts, enabling you to maintain a history of interaction.
ACT! for Newton links to the Newton calendar assisting in the scheduling process. You can view your calendar by day, week, or month, and assign each event a priority along with an alarm to remind you of scheduled tasks. The product also includes an integrated tone-dialer, along with a word processor and report generator that allows you to create and fax personalized letters addressed to people in your contact database.
ACT! for Newton is compatible with Newton 1.0 and 2.0 operating systems, and runs on the MessagePad 100, 110, and 120. The program can store up to 2,000 contacts and allows you to perform synchronization with the desktop versions using a standard serial cable. ACT! for Newton is available immediately and is priced at $99.95.
