Spectrum Information Technologies, Inc., the new home of former Apple CEO John Sculley, announced that a U.S. District Court upheld the validity of Spectrum’s basic patent for features used for sending data over current cellular networks.

With the judgement, Spectrum and Microcom, Inc. agreed to a settlement of their pending patent infringement lawsuit. Together, Microcom and Spectrum will form a business alliance to encourage the development of technologies for data transmission. This will include the cross-licensing of technologies between the two companies.

John Sculley categorized the judgement as a “win-win-win situation” with the two companies and the consumer benefitting. Spectrum brings several patents for data transmission over radio networks to the alliance, including protocols for sending data over cellular networks, and interconnectivity between computers and cell phones.

Microcom contributes its MNP 10 data transmission protocol which enables data to be accurately sent under adverse conditions.

Spectrum, headquartered in Manhasset, N.Y., licenses its patented technology to companies in the cellular data industry. For more information, please contact Dae Chang of Spectrum Information Technologies at (516) 627-8992 x136.
