Practically nothing is more important to the livelihood of a computing environment than solid, easy-to-use, and affordable development tools. Metrowerks took us another step closer to this goal for development on General Magic’s innovative Magic Cap platform with the recent release of CodeWarrior 7 Gold.
When Metrowerks released CodeWarrior Magic in May of this year, it was welcomed as the first and only generally available development environment for Magic Cap. But that version required developers to use Apple’s Macintosh Programmers Workshop (MPW), instead of Metrowerks’ more integrated development environment. Metrowerks promised to offer integration for Magic Cap developers in time for their next general release—and indeed they have.
CodeWarrior 7 Gold features a set of tools to assist developers in building Magic Cap applications, including:
- a preliminary developer release of a new universal “plug-and-play” integrated development environment, into which developers can plug the C compiler and linker for creating Magic Cap apps
- an MPW-based C compiler and linker for people more comfortable with Apple’s native environment
- General Magic’s object-oriented development system
- the Magic Cap OS simulator, for testing and debugging applications directly on the Mac
The developer release of the CodeWarrior IDE will be updated in time for General Magic’s Developer Conference in late October. The CodeWarrior 7 Gold subscription package, including two additional CD-ROM releases in January and May, 1996, is priced at US $399.
