Maxtor Corp.—The San Jose, California manufacturer of storage equipment announced that Ryal R. Poppa has resigned as a director of the company. Poppa, who is chairman, president, and CEO at Storage Technology Corp., has been on Maxtor’s board of directors since October, 1994.
Poppa cited a heavy schedule at StorageTek as the reason for leaving Maxtor’s board.
Nextel Communications Inc.—Thinking that three’s a charm, the telecommunication company recently added three new members to its board of directors representing the McCaw family, Motorola, Inc., and OneComm Corp. The three new members are Craig McCaw, chairman and CEO of Eagle River Inc., Keith Bane, executive vice president and chief corporate staff officer of Motorola, and Steven W. Schovee, founder and CEO of OneComm Corp.
To bring you up to date, Eagle River is a private company headed by McCaw formed to make strategic investments in telecommunication ventures.
SanDisk Corporation—The leader among manufacturers of flash mass storage cards has created a new senior level management structure and, in the process, promoted three vice presidents to the positions of senior vice president. The three are Leon Malmed, senior vice president, marketing and sales; Cindy Burgdorf, chief financial officer and senior vice president, finance and administration; and Dan Auclair, senior vice president, operations and technology. ❑
