MicroAge First to Offer CIC’s PenLABS Seminars Introducing Pen Computing Benefits to the Business Market

September 8, 1992 — Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC) (NASDAQ:CICI) and MicroAge Computer Centers Inc. Tuesday announced that MicroAge will be the first to market CIC’s PenLABS seminars to the business computer market. MicroAge will offer PenLABS seminars through its U.S. locations beginning in October.

CIC’s PenLABS seminars were created to educate end-users and application developers about the benefits of pen computing and the ways in which this new technology can be applied to meet specific end-users’ requirements.

PenLABs seminar attendees will receive demonstrations of the tools developers need to quickly create new pencentric applications using PenDOS, CIC’s efficient pen operating environment for the DOS platform. PenLABS attendees also will learn how PenDOS makes thousands of existing DOS applications pencentric with no code modification; and how developers can leverage existing applications with PenDOS, greatly reducing development time, and therefore the over-all time and expense required to get their products to market.

PenLABS seminars will be available to the MicroAge Network of more than 1,200 franchised, company-owned and affiliated reseller locations, and their respective customers. MicroAge currently markets the NCR 3125 NotePad Computer. It also plans to market other pen computers and pencentric software development tools for the PenDOS plat-forms.

“We have created special marketing initiatives dedicated to the education and training of end-users and value-added re-sellers on pen computing technology,” said Alan P. Hald, vice chairman of MicroAge. “CIC’s PenLABS seminars combined with CIC’s expertise in pen computing technology will allow us to meet the needs of customers interested in the exciting and fast emerging pen computing arena.”

“The benefits of pen computing are rapidly expanding beyond the tens of thousands of satisfied pen computer users in vertical markets,” noted James Dao, CIC president and chief executive officer. “As pen computing hardware and soft-ware products become more broadly available, end-user education and the horizontal market distribution channel be-come the next key steps in building the pen computing market.

“CIC is pleased to have MicroAge as a marketing partner. MicroAge’s franchisees and affiliated resellers are ideally qualified and will be the first to offer CIC’s PenLABS seminars — further enhancing MicroAge’s ability to educate users and satisfy customers’ pen computing requirements.”

CIC is a leading, worldwide supplier of pen computing products, including: multilingual (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Japanese) Handwriter Recognition Systems and Handwriter Dynamic Signature Verification, with interfaces for Microsoft Windows for Pen Computing, GO’s PenPoint, and CIC’s own PenDOS and MacHandwriter pen operating environments. CIC’s MacHandwriter, a desktop pen extension to the Macintosh computer, is distributed by Apple Japan Inc. CIC is headquartered in Redwood Shores and has a subsidiary in Tokyo.
