Mobile Pen Computing Seminar Offered by UC Extension; Emerging Technology Lecture Series

August 10, 1992 — Mobile pen computing represents a new market which is distinct from the existing desktop computer market.

You can learn more about this new technology at a special seminar which is part of the continuing Emerging Technology Lecture Series sponsored by University of California Extension and Computer Literacy Bookshops.

“Mobile Pen Computing” is Thursday, Sept. 3, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at UC Extension, 3120 De la Cruz Blvd. (Trimble at 101), Santa Clara. Fee for the seminar is $10.

Many of the users and applications of Mobile Pen Computing will be different from the desktop environment. By virtue of their form and lack of keyboard, this new technology is particularly suitable for face-to-face activities, such as meetings and customer visits, where keyboards can be disruptive or socially unacceptable.

The general purpose operating system for pen computing must provide unparalleled ease of use and mobile connectivity so that users can move from one work site to another without restrictions.

Robert Carr, co-founder of GO Corp., will discuss the current and future opportunities for software developers who wish to develop applications for mobile pen computers in general, and the PenPoint operating system in specific.
