NEC Corp. Signs Letter of Intent to License CIC Technology

November 4, 1991 — Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC) (NASDAQ:CICI) and NEC Corp. (NEC) of Japan have signed a Letter of Intent to enter into a formal agreement to grant NEC a worldwide license to use, copy and distribute CIC’s Handwriter MultiLingual Recognition software, Operating Environmental Interfaces to various operating systems and Handwriter On-Line Dynamic Signature Verification System.

It was also announced that NEC has engaged CIC to immediately commence integration of CIC’s Japanese handwriting recognition software with NEC’s pen-based personal computer systems with the proper interface for Microsoft’s Windows for Pen Computing. This agreement and the related fees, payable by NEC to CIC for the development work, are independent of the license agreement being negotiated.

NEC is a $26 billion manufacturer of computer, communication, semiconductor and home entertainment products worldwide. NEC currently supplies more than 50 percent of the Japanese personal computer market shipping in excess of one million units per year. NEC computers are distributed worldwide.

CIC is the leading supplier of multi-lingual handwriting recognition software. CIC’s products include Handwriter Recognition System, various operating system interfaces for Microsoft’s Windows for Pen Computing and Go’s PenPoint, PenDOS and MacHandwriter Pen Operating Environments.
