Norand Bundles CIC’s Handwriter Recognition Software on New PEN-KEY 6622 Mobile Computer

January 21, 1997 — Norand Corp. (NASDAQ:NRND) introduced on January 17 the PEN*KEY(R) 6622, a powerful PC based mobile computer, with Communication Intelligence Corp.’s (NASDAQ:CICI) Handwriter Recognition System (HRS) software preinstalled.

Norand joins a growing list of manufacturers of handheld computer products including Fujitsu Personal Systems, Inc., Symbol Technologies, Telxon Corp., and Seiko-Epson, which have adopted CIC’s HRS as their standard for handwriting recognition software on the Windows for Pen Computing platform.

“Field personnel should appreciate the 6622’s, large active matrix color display, it’s lightweight and powerful AMD X5 processor, complimented by the natural means of input provided by CIC’s handwriting recognition,” said Jeff Dao, vice president of marketing and sales at CIC.

Handwriter Recognition System delivers character recognition “out of the box” without requiring users to train the system. HRS also supports recognition of common editing marks or “gestures” and is currently the only recognizer for Windows 95 which does so.

Additionally, CIC has included an advanced Control Panel (The Handwriter Manager) which provides a user friendly training wizard, an animated gesture tutorial, and allows for additional customization.

Shipments begin in March 1997 for the PEN*KEY 6622 in the United States and Canada with CIC’s Handwriting Recognition System software preinstalled on every unit.
