AirMedia Announces First and Only Push Network to Serve the Mobile User

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — May 5, 1997 — Licensing Program Available for AirMedia Live Mobile Broadcast Technology

AirMedia announced today the availability of a new hardware reference platform of wireless receivers, software and services for its AirMedia Live Internet Broadcast Network, designed to bring the benefits of AirMedia's push Internet broadcast technology to mobile Windows 95 and Windows CE Handheld PC users across the country.

While cyberspace is all about communications, most of the time mobile Internet users are incommunicado while they are visiting customers or clients, traveling or otherwise not logged on with a modem. AirMedia Live-Mobile solves this problem uniquely by bridging the gap from the web to mobile workers while they are in motion. It leverages the powerful combination of broadcast public news, scores and reports, narrowcast corporate information to private constituencies, and unicast individually-addressed messages delivering E-Mail and personal stock portfolio alerts.

This new mobile hardware and software offering is differentiated from previous desktop AirMedia products by its small form factor and the availability of battery, memory and processing capabilities in the device which facilitate communications even while mobile computers are turned off or asleep. The reference designs for this low cost, high value communications product for Windows 95 and Windows CE platforms are now available for license by PC and peripheral manufacturers.

"Many of our customers are represented in the key mobile worker and telecommuter markets which are addressed by this technology, said Annie Bacon, Director, Marketing, Handheld Products at Compaq Computer Corporation.

"Compaq is currently working directly with AirMedia to develop technology specific to Windows CE products, such as Compaq's PC companion. The ability to give our customers a constant connection to the Internet for instant delivery of news, sports scores, prices and corporate alerts — in the palm of their hands — provides them with a distinct advantage."

"AirMedia Live-Mobile devices will also play an important role on the Windows 95 platform and in the seamless connection of our wireless broadcasts to Microsoft's Internet Explorer 4.0 and Active Desktop as information delivery services," said John M. Payne, President of AirMedia. "By uniquely enabling desktop components with wireless 'push' channel delivery of real-time information based on the channel definition format (CDF) standard, we will extend the potential of push delivery technologies to millions of mobile workers. Microsoft recently named AirMedia one of three premier ISVs for its integration of AirMedia wireless delivery technology to support Internet Explorer 4.0 and the Active Desktop. "The mobile market represents a large and growing segment of Internet usage, particularly among corporate users," said Will Poole, Senior Director, Business Development of Microsoft. "AirMedia's wireless, always-available broadcast networks will extend the information delivery capabilities of IE 4.0 and Active Desktop to users on-the-go at customers, job sites, hotels, airports and anywhere else mobile computer users go."

AirMedia and its growing list of 40+ leading Web broadcast partners offer expedited, real-time wireless delivery of content to the Active Desktop.
