America Online Expands Lead in Mobile Computing Market, Provides Customized Service Pre-Loaded on the Motorola Envoy Device

VIENNA, Va. — March 7, 1994 — America Online (NASDAQ-NMS: AMER) announced today that it will provide a customized edition of its service pre-loaded on the Motorola Envoy personal wireless communicator, extending the Company's lead in the mobile computing market.

Using the hand-held Envoy device, based on the Magic Cap platform, subscribers to America Online will have access to affordable, easy-to-use services including E-mail, top news, business and sports as well as stock quote and portfolio information. Subscribers can locate these services through the America Online building located in the simulated "downtown" area.

"This new edition of America Online is the latest example of the Company's commitment to embrace new standards and technologies," said Steve Case, President and CEO of America Online. "We've specially tailored this new edition to incorporate the powerful features of the Magic Cap platform, making America Online familiar and easy to use for Motorola customers."

In addition, America Online subscribers using the Motorola personal communicator will be able to access online support for the Motorola Envoy device and the Magic Cap platform via E-mail. America Online desktop subscribers can currently access the General Magic online area which offers online support, general company information, developer news and message boards. A Motorola online area will be available soon that will also offer online support, general company information, independent software vendor support and message boards.
