Applix E-Business Solution Available on Palm Computing Platform
CHICAGO — February 16, 2000 — Applix, Inc. (NASDAQ:APLX), a leader in e-Business Solutions including Internet-based Customer Relationship Management (iCRM) and Internet-based Planning (iPlanning) announced today at the DCI CRM Conference & Exhibition in Chicago, IL that it has added support for Palm Computing Platform devices to its e-Business iCRM offering, Applix iEnterprise. Applix iEnterprise support for the Palm Computing complements a recent announcement of support for the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) for iEnterprise. These mobile computing innovations position Applix as the leader in Wireless and Mobile e-Business solutions for iCRM.
The Palm Computing platform has quickly become the fastest growing computing platform in history, with over 3 million units sold. International Data Corp. has estimated that it presently accounts for a 72% share of the worldwide market for handheld personal devices. Annual sales of these personal handheld computers, numbering 3,000,000 in 1997, are expected to grow to over 13,000,000 units by the end of 2001.
"The foundation of successfully managing an e-Business strategy is providing all members of a company's community access to information and be when, where and how they need it," said Alan Goldsworthy, president of Applix's e-Business Solutions Division. "By implementing WAP and Palm Computing solutions into our e-Business platform for iCRM, we have expanded the traditional corporate environment into an extended virtual community. This extended community enables the mobile, geographically dispersed professional to remain connected to corporate information and respond to changing business dynamics anytime, anyplace using the most convenient method of access."
As a member of the Palm Solution Provider program, Applix has aligned itself with over 15,000 companies such as Motorola (NYSE: MOT), Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM), Sun (Nasdaq: SUNW), Symbol Technologies (NYSE: SBL), and Handspring, Inc, all of whom are focused on delivering best- of- breed mobile computing solutions.
"The addition of support for Palm OS devices further demonstrates our strong commitment to pursue emerging technology that allows us to extend the range of the mobile professional, especially those using a broad range of devices over a wide variety of networks", said Robert Schrager, Director of Mobile Technology at Applix.
