ARDIS to be the First Wireless Network for Motorola’s Envoy Personal Wireless Communicator

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. — March 7, 1994 — ARDIS, the nation's first and largest wireless data communications network, announced today it will be the first wireless network on which Motorola's Envoy(R) personal wireless communicator will operate.

Without the need for a telephone jack or a traditional wireline modem, Envoy users will be able to send and receive information from virtually any location via ARDIS' nationwide network.

ARDIS provides in- building, on-street and in-vehicle coverage in more than 400 metropolitan areas in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The network covers 80 percent of the population and 90 percent of all U.S. business activity.

"With its wireless communications capabilities, the Envoy is breaking new ground. We're excited to be the first network to help bring the benefits of wireless to a new end user market," said Frank Wapole, president and chief executive officer of ARDIS. "For several years, ARDIS has brought mobility and convenience to tens of thousands of individuals. Now, this technology will reach a new set of users who will appreciate the freedom that ARDIS and Envoy brings them."

People will use the ARDIS network through services such as AT&T PersonaLink(SM) Services, a new network service AT&T is building with Telescript(TM) technology and intelligent assistants, RadioMail and others available on Envoy.
