Autodesk Announces Vice President of Core Technology
SAUSALITO, Calif. — November 15, 1993 — Autodesk, Inc. announced that starting today, Robert Carr will serve as vice president of core technology.
In this role, Carr is responsible for building a technology team to provide competitive, technical leadership for all the product development groups within Autodesk. Carr, along with John Lynch, Autodesk's vice president of product development, will provide technical expertise to Autodesk's executive team.

Carr will oversee the acquisitions and development of technology components, provide core software expertise to the product groups, and develop and implement Autodesk's technology and product architectural vision. Kevin Weiler, who served as acting vice president of core technology, will resume his responsibilities as chief architect in Autodesk's Core Technology Group.
Most recently, Carr, 37, was the co-founder and vice-president of software development at GO Corporation, the developer of the PenPoint operating system. Carr was responsible for all the software development, growing his staff from one to 150 over six years. A highly successful development effort, GO Corporation and PenPoint was just acquired by AT&T as its world standard operating system and user interface for personal communicators.
Prior to GO Corporation, Carr was chairman and vice president of engineering at Forefront Corporation, a development company he founded to develop Framework, an integrated operating environment and a suite of DOS-based applications. After two years, Carr sold Forefront to Ashton-Tate, oversaw the successful merger and went on to become chief scientist, leading core technology design efforts at Ashton-Tate.
Carr has a long history of technical management and programming experience beginning at Xerox PARC. In addition to a strong background in technical management and development, Carr is an inventor of several patents, an active industry spokesperson, columnist and author. Carr earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Engineering at Stanford University.
