CIC Demos PenDOS Solution with Borland’s dBase IV v.1.5

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — November 9, 1992 — Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC) (NASDAQ:CICI) and Borland International Inc. Monday announced the demonstration of CIC's PenDOS pen operating environment running dBASE IV version 1.5 in a pen-based application.

The demonstration will take place at Fall Comdex, the PC industry's largest trade show, in Las Vegas, Nov. 16-19, at Borland's booth (1178 – 1278).

"Borland is pleased to demonstrate to the dBASE application development community that dBASE applications can be quickly enhanced to provide solutions in the high-growth pen computing segment," said Paul Gross, general manager of Borland's Application Development Business Unit.

"A new set of vertical application users who have not used computers much in the past — due to the need for mobility or those unaccustomed to keyboards — can now benefit from automation via pen computing with the most widely used database management and application development system."

CIC's demonstration will emphasize how current pen input technology is easily integrated with dBASE IV v. 1.5, Borland's market leading database and application development system.

PenDOS is CIC's fast and memory efficient pen operating environment for the DOS platform — specifically designed for developing new pencentric applications and transforming existing mouse-aware DOS applications into pen-aware applications, without modification.

With CIC's PenDOS, existing dBASE applications can easily be leveraged into the exploding market for a pen-based computers – without enduring long and costly redevelopment projects. In addition, PenDOS and dBASE IV v. 1.5 increase the value of a company's DOS vertical application investment and knowledge by providing the ability to use dBASE IV for developing new, entirely pencentric applications.

The demonstration at Comdex will feature both existing dBASE IV DOS applications and a dBASE IV v. 1.5 application designed specifically for pen input with PenDOS.

"CIC's PenDOS offers dBASE developers and end-users exciting new opportunities to utilize dBASE on today's pen input computers," said Jake Warde, manager of developer sales at CIC. "Whether you are leveraging existing code or developing new pencentric applications, dBASE and PenDOS provide an extremely fast and efficient pen development environment."
