CIC Receives Second Order for MacHandwriter from Apple Japan
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — February 3, 1992 — Communication Intelligence Corp. (NASDAQ:CICI) Monday announced it has secured a second order from Apple Japan.
MacHandwriter is a pen-based user interface for the Macintosh. Connecting MacHandwriter to a Macintosh Computer, users can input Kanji, Hiragana, Katakana, Alphanumerics and symbols directly and naturally into most Macintosh models equipped with the KanjiTalk operating system.
The MacHandwriter solution has allowed Apple Japan to introduce the first full capability pen-based desktop computer. Under the Apple-CIC distribution agreement, Apple has primary responsibility for advertising and distribution. CIC is providing technical and promotional support. During the introduction phase CIC and Apple achieved the following results:
— Major Apple Japan distributors and more than 150 of their dealers purchased a MacHandwriter and have been fully trained on the system.
— In November, Apple Japan initiated an advertising campaign with transit ads and magazine and newspaper inserts featuring the MacHandwriter.
— Apple Japan, several of its largest distributors, and CIC have initiated a joint promotional campaign focused on Apple's installed base in Japan.
