Codewarrior 7 Now Builds Windows 95 and Windows NT Application Binaries Intended for Use on X86-Based PCs
AUSTIN, Texas — September 13, 1995 — Metrowerks Inc. (ME, VSE:MWK) Wednesday announced the release of the CodeWarriorr(TM) 7 Gold Win32(TM) (x86) development tools for Mac(TM)-compatible computers. The Mac-hosted CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment (IDE) now compiles code for x86 processor-based computers running Windows 95 and Windows NT(TM).
The CodeWarrior IDE is a versatile software development environment allowing programmers to write software in C, C++, and Object Pascal with options to target the Mac(TM)OS, Windows 95, Windows NT (x86) and Magic Cap(TM) computing platforms. The IDE uses a plug-and-play design to target multiple platforms within a single application.
CodeWarrior Gold includes Metrowerks new Win32 backend, linker, and WinRC resource compiler which support the development of Win32-based applications. Metrowerks WinRC implements all the resource types supported by Microsofts RC.EXE.
The CodeWarrior tools for Win32 on the x86 contain complete header files and libraries for the Win32 API along with online documentation.
Metrowerks C/C++ for Win32 supports 2-machine debugging of applications running remotely under Windows NT and Windows 95 operating systems from the Mac-host computer.
Under an agreement with Microsoft, Metrowerks is licensing the Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) Version 3.2 for distribution on the CodeWarrior Gold 7 CD-ROM for use with the CodeWarrior IDE. Full MFC source code is included as well as a project that builds the MFC from the source code. Electronic assistance includes QuickView versions of the Win32 SDK on-line documentation and Books Online, documenting MFC.
"The launch of CodeWarrior 7 including the Windows 95 and Windows NT tools is an important milestone for the Macintosh(R) programming community," said Greg Galanos, President and CEO of Metrowerks. "With CodeWarriors new universal 'plug-and-play' IDE and plug-in compilers, Macintosh programmers can now build Windows-based applications and continue to work on the Macintosh."
"Metrowerk's new cross-compiler will make it easier than ever for Mac developers to get the most out of their experience when developing applications for Windows 95," said James Plamondon, Technical Evangelist in Microsofts Developer Relations Group. "If you need to write code for Windows, but want to use your Mac to do it, Code Warrior 7 Gold is the system for you!" Pricing and Availability
CodeWarrior 7 Gold will be released on September 15. The CodeWarrior Gold subscription package is priced at $ 399 and includes 2 additional CD-ROM releases in January, 1996 and May, 1996.
