CUPERTINO, Calif. — October 26, 1999 — CommerceNet today announced that Palm IIIx(TM) handheld devices will be given to attendees of the CommerceNet 99 conference in San Diego on 1-3 November, so they can experience the power and understand the potential of eCheck technology. CommerceNet 99 participants will use their Palm(TM) handheld device throughout the conference to purchase conference items.

CommerceNet 99 attendees will create their own eChecks using their new Palm IIIx(TM) handheld as an electronic wallet. Through implementations by IBM and RDM — who are among the first organizations to develop eCheck solutions — participants can see how easy it is to write an eCheck: user settings are customized with simple drop-down menus and basic forms. Next, attendees will use their eCheck to "purchase" select CommerceNet 99 conference merchandise from the CN 99 conference store. After transmitting the eCheck as a secure, digitally signed, encrypted message, users will see the eCheck receipt and deposit process, as well as receive their selected items.
