Communications Intelligence Corporation Licenses QuickNotes and CE Speller Software to Compaq for Bundling with their New C-Series Windows CE 2.0 PC Companion
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — December 4, 1997 — Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC) announced today that Compaq Corporations is bundling CIC's QuickNotes(TM), note-taking application, and CE Speller, spell checking utility, with its new C-Series PC Companion, which features the new Windows CE 2.0.
"Compaq's existing PC companion customers made it clear that a note-taking application was needed and CIC's QuickNotes is the best solution we found to fill this need," said Annie Bacon, director of Handheld Products for Compaq.
"CIC's CE Speller is also a natural fit for Handheld PCs since there is no spell checking capability for email, which is a primary application for these devices. By adding these two products to Compaq's C-Series PC Companion, we have increased the overall value for our customers."
"Compaq's release of its new C-Series, The First Professional Handheld PC demonstrates its commitment to this market. We are pleased that Compaq has chosen to enhance its offering with our CE applications, QuickNotes and Speller," said Madeline Duva, vice president OEM Business Development at CIC. "Since the CE Speller will be implemented in ROM, Compaq's users will realize the benefits of the Speller without affecting the amount of memory available for applications and data."
Compaq has agreed to help CIC promote its products via promotional materials with its new C-Series PC Companion packaging and on the Compaq website http://www.compaq.com/products/handhelds/index.html .
QuickNotes(TM) is an application which allows users to capture handwritten notes and drawings on their Windows CE handheld computers. QuickNotes offers users a simple paper-like metaphor for creating and navigating through notes. Since the notes are stored in chronological order and time stamped, it is easy to sort notes and to find information.
QuickNotes uses CIC's proprietary electronic ink compression technology to reduce the amount of memory that is required by QuickNotes pages. CE Speller is a spell checking utility that works with all Windows CE applications including the email application. CIC Speller is designed to increase the CE user's productivity with features such as macros for quickly entering frequently used words or phrases.
In addition, as the user adds words to the custom dictionary for the CIC Speller, the Pocket Word dictionary will also be updated.
