LOMBARD, Ill. — June 17, 1993 — Dauphin Technology Inc. (OTC:DNTK), a leading designer of next generation mobile computers, announced Thursday that it has signed a worldwide license agreement for Communication Intelligence Corp.'s (CIC) (NASDAQ:CICI) PenDOS pen operating environment and multilingual Handwriter Recognition System software for PenDOS – exclusively sublicensed by IBM.
Dauphin will be demonstrating PenDOS during PC Expo, June 29 – July 1 in New York.
CIC'S PenDOS pen operating environment is specifically designed to transform major existing mouse-aware DOS applications into pen-aware applications, without modification, as well as to develop new pencentric applications. Combined with Handwriter Recognition System software from Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC), PenDOS allows Dauphin to offer its customers a pen computing solution, worldwide. "PenDOS represents a new and exciting operating environment for our line of pen-based products," said Dauphin President and CEO, Alan Yong. "Users will be able to leverage off of existing DOS software as well as take advantage of future pencentric applications. And the support for multilingual handwriting recognition provides us with some excellent international opportunities, particularly in the Asian markets."
Dauphin plans to offer PenDOS with its D5000 Pentop Convertible and DTR-1 (2.5 lb., 486 computer). Both units combine notebook and desktop functionality with pen-based input and are being geared towards mobile markets including health care, insurance and sales automation.
