Digital’s High-Performance StrongARM Microprocessor Gets Microsoft Windows CE Platform Support

MAYNARD, Mass. — December 4, 1996 — Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) today announced that its StrongARM RISC microprocessor will be supported by Microsoft Corporation's recently introduced Windows CE software platform for consumer electronics products such as handheld personal computers, smart phones, and DVD players. "Microsoft is pleased to announce Windows CE support for the StrongARM architecture," said Harel Kodesh, general manager of the consumer appliance group at Microsoft. "The combination of StrongARM with Windows CE creates a powerful foundation upon which to build new categories of Windows CE-based communications, entertainment, and mobile computing products."
