EO Inc. Selects MiniStor’s Ruggedized 1.8 Hard Disk Drive for the Personal Communicator 880

SAN JOSE, Calif. — June 7, 1993 — MiniStor Peripherals Corp. Monday announced that EO Inc., Mountain View, Calif., has selected MiniStor's 64 megabyte (MB), IDE interface, 1.8 inch hard disk drive as the primary storage device for the EO Personal Communicator 880.

MiniStor's MiniPORT 64A was introduced last March as part of a family of ruggedized 1.8 inch hard drives that offer high capacity, PCMCIA and IDE interfaces, and the highest level of shock resistance in the industry — 200 Gs operating and non-operating.

"The MiniStor drive provides our users with an ideal mobile storage solution. It offers small size, light weight, low power, adequate storage capacity and the maximum ruggedness available in a 1.8 inch drive. These features are imperative for our customers," said Alain Rossmann, president of EO Inc.

Called The PORTables Series, MiniStor's family of drives include 42, 64 and 85 MB capacities in IDE and PCMCIA interfaces. They are designed as primary storage devices for the growing market of battery-powered portable and mobile computers, including notebook, sub-notebook and pen-based systems.

EO's Personal Communicator 880 is a fully integrated communications device that combines the power of cellular phones, fax machines, and personal computers in a light weight, highly mobile unit.

"We are delighted to be chosen by EO as their partner in supplying a ruggedized storage solution for the Personal Communicator 880," said Jim Miller, president and chief executive officer of MiniStor Peripherals. "This design win signifies our ability to deliver a storage solution that meets the needs of a new generation of battery-powered mobile systems."

EO Inc. was founded in 1991 to produce and market personal communicators. The company has received funding from Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, AT&T, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., Marubeni and Olivetti. EO employs approximately 100 people at its headquarters in Mountain View, and its European office Cambridge, England.

MiniStor Peripherals Corp., founded in 1991, is a designer and manufacturer of high capacity, very-rugged, low cost sub-miniature data storage solutions for portable and mobile (battery-powered) personal computers.
