Epson America and CIC Form Strategic Alliance — Handwriter Recognition Available on EHT-400 Handheld Computers
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — June 18, 1996 — Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC) announced that Epson America will expand its offering of CIC products.
Epson America currently offers CIC's PenDOS as well as Handwriter Recognition System (HRS) software version 4.0 for Windows 3.1, and will now offer CIC's new HRS software version 5.0 for Windows 95. Epson America is the fourth company in recent months to standardize on CIC's handwriting recognition systems for their second generation handheld products.
Strategic alliances have also been previously announced with other industry leaders including Symbol Technologies, Telxon, and Fujitsu Personal System.
"Given Epson's commitment to provide our customers with the best technology available, offering CIC's newest handwriting recognition system was a logical conclusion," said Bud Weist, business unit director, Epson OEM.
"We are pleased with Epson's selection of CIC's technology for use in their innovative products. We believe that well thought-out products such as Epson's should continue to flourish in demanding vertical markets," said Jeff Dao, vice president, marketing and sales, CIC.
Epson sells the EHT-400 and two other handheld computer models into mobile markets that require lightweight, compact and sturdy computer hardware for field personnel. Epson's EHT-400 product line provides high-resolution, backlit, touch-sensitive screens for data input with a finger or a regular pen. This enables users to quickly process information while on the go.
Other options allow users to scan credit cards and to have clients sign their name before printing a receipt, elevating portable transaction processing capabilities to a whole new level.
The EHT-400S, EHT-400E and EHT-400C will be sold through OEM and VAR channels and have a MSRP of $ 2,519, $ 2,999 and $ 3,799 respectively. Production units are currently available. Additional information regarding the OEM and VAR programs is available by contacting Epson directly at 310/787-6300 or visit Epson America's Web site at http://www.epson.com.
CIC's handwriting recognition software is widely licensed and considered by many a standard for mobile computing. Handwriter Recognition System Version 5.0 tolerates inconsistencies in users' writing styles and also deciphers overlapped and connected-pair letters, allowing recognition of highly distorted handwriting, which is very common on handheld computers.
