General Magic Announces Additions to Board of Directors Oracle’s Jerry Baker and Tandem’s Roel Pieper Become Newest Members Of Board
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — April 3, 1996 — General Magic (Nasdaq: GMGC) today announced that Jerry Baker of Oracle Corporation and Roel Pieper of Tandem Computers Incorporated have joined its Board of Directors. They join Greg Gallo, Andy Hertzfeld, Carl Pascarella, Marc Porat and John Young as members of General Magic's Board.
Jerry Baker, 45, is senior vice president in charge of the Product and Platform Technologies Division at Oracle Corporation. Prior to joining Oracle in 1984, he worked at IBM as Manager of the Advanced Products group for DB2, IBM's relational database system for MVS. Dr. Baker received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978.
Roel Pieper, 39, is president and chief executive of Tandem Computers Incorporated. Prior to assuming that position, he served as president and chief executive officer of Tandem's UB Networks subsidiary. He was also president and chief executive officer of AT&T's UNIX Systems Laboratories (USL) and spent ten years at Software AG in Germany and the United States. Mr. Pieper graduated summa cum laude from the University of Delft in the Netherlands, and holds a doctoral degree in computer sciences and mathematics.
