General Magic Announces Zimmerman Departure; Cerutti Appointed Controller

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — December 19, 1996 — General Magic, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMGC) announced today that senior vice president of finance and administration and chief financial officer, John Zimmerman, has resigned to pursue other interests.

President, chairman, and chief executive officer, Steve Markman, will assume the duties of chief financial officer.

Robyn R. Cerutti has been appointed controller, reporting to Markman, and will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the company. Cerutti brings a broad range of operational, Securities and Exchange Commission reporting, and public accounting experience in the software industry, specializing in emerging markets.

Cerutti has been consulting to General Magic, and previously spent five years with the international accounting firm, KPMG Peat Marwick. Cerutti also served as chief financial officer for Swan Instruments, Inc.

The company also announced the appointment of Kevin Surace as vice president and general manager. His responsibilities will include developing a business plan for telephony solutions.

Surace brings to General Magic more than 16 years of experience in the high technology industry. Most recently, he was a consultant to a variety of telecommunications companies including AT&T, BellSouth, LA Cellular, as well as Casio and Philips regarding wireless communications technology.

Previously, he was founder and chief executive officer of Air Communications, a developer of wireless communications.
