General Magic Ships New Release of Magic Cap Software

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — October 30, 1995 — General Magic, Inc. (Nasdaq: GMGC) today announced that a new version of Magic Cap software for communicators has shipped. The Magic Cap platform release features enhanced performance and incorporates numerous user requested improvements based on customer and Magic Cap licensee feedback on General Magic's first release of Magic Cap software. New features include improved memory management, enhanced electronic mail features such as message tracking to monitor the status of a message, auto-forwarding and auto-cancellation of messages after user-specified time-limits, and simplified telephone dialing capabilities including improved international dialing support.

The new version of Magic Cap software is included in Sony's new Magic Link(TM) PIC-2000 personal communicator, announced today by Sony at General Magic's Developers' Conference. The latest Magic Link communicator features a variety of hardware improvements including a backlit screen, built-in 14.4 kps modem, 2 MB memory, two PCMCIA type II card slots, and speakerphone support for complete connectivity on the go.

Future versions of the Envoy(R) Wireless Communicator from Motorola are expected to incorporate the new Magic Cap platform release.

The Magic Cap platform integrates today's popular modes of communication including fax, public electronic mail services, paging, and telephones, and incorporates AT&T PersonaLink(SM) Services, a public network service that supports smart messaging, Internet mail connectivity, fax services, and rich content such as text, digital ink, sound, and animations. Software available for Magic Cap communicators includes direct corporate and Internet email connectivity, data collection and database access, spreadsheet and personal finance applications, as well as targeted vertical applications.

The Magic Cap platform is open to independent developers and affords them the opportunity to create new communicating applications and services. Tools for software developers are available from Metrowerks. In addition, at General Magic's Developers Conference today, General Magic released a new TCP/IP library for development of Internet access applications.
