GRiD Expands in Australia, New Zealand
FREMONT, Calif. — September 15, 1991 — GRiD Systems Corp. Wednesday announced a significant expansion of its international sales and distribution operations by signing agreements with three distributors in Australia and New Zealand.
Louis Jouanny, GRiD's director of international marketing, said: ''Australia and New Zealand represent key, rapidly expanding markets for GRiD. We need to be there to support the many multinational companies doing business in Australia and New Zealand.''
The distribution agreements were signed with TCG, Vicom and Southmark, three large computer distributors in the rapidly growing Pacific Rim market.
TCG, based in Sydney, Australia and considered a leader in the handheld computer market, will offer GRiD's complete line of laptop, desktop and pen-based computers to commercial customers. TCG will also offer complete sales and service support to all GRiD customers.
''TCG is extremely excited about launching, selling and supporting the entire GRiD product line, especially the GRiDPAD,'' said TCG general manager Bonnie Sundberg.
''We have a powerful advantage in relation to the GRiDPAD product in particular. Our many years of experience installing handheld units into grocery, pharmaceutical and distribution companies make the addition of the GRiDPAD a natural.''
Sundberg added, ''TCG's sales force and software developers have been trained on GRiD's GRiDPen, the MS-DOS based software environment for pen-based computers, further strengthening GRiD's and TCG's commitment to the future of pen-based computing.''
Jouanny noted that ''the GRiDPAD is a unique product and will enable distributors and VARs to gain early entry to the emerging and potentially huge pen-based market.''
Melbourne-based Vicom, one of Australia's leading telecommunications suppliers, will sell GRiD's complete product line to the military and defense markets through its sales offices located in all major cities throughout Australia.
Jouanny said that ''Vicom has been representing GRiD since 1984 and will now be concentrating its efforts specifically on the military and defense arena. We at GRiD are very pleased to renew and strengthen our relationship with Vicom.''
Fred Grossman, general manager of Vicom said,''We see tremendous potential with GRiD's TEMPEST products and the robust 1550sx in our market and are excited about GRiDPAD applications.''
Southmark is one of New Zealand's largest distributors of personal computers. The firm, headquartered in Auckland, announced it is establishing a GRiD division to promote GRiD's pen-based products.
Peter Uffindell, Southmark's managing director said: ''The addition of GRiD's product line brings exciting new dimensions to the Southmark offering. GRiDPAD offers Southmark the opportunity to be a more diversified personal computer supplier which will successfully aid in the automation of current corporate accounts.''
