GRiD Systems Announces Alan Lefkof Named President
FREMONT, Calif. — December 18, 1989 — Alan B. Lefkof, senior vice president, finance and corporate development, at GRiD Systems Corp., has been named president of GRiD.
The appointment is effective Jan. 1.
Lefkof, 36, succeeds Samuel J. Wiegand, 60, who announced recently that he will take a long-planned retirement at the end of the year. Wiegand was an initial investor in GRiD and served as GRiD president and chief executive officer since 1984.
Lefkof joined GRiD in a sales management position in 1982. After serving as vice president of marketing from 1984 to 1987, he was named vice president of finance and chief financial officer. In 1988, Lefkof was promoted to his present position.
Prior to GRiD, Lefkof served as a senior management consultant for McKinsey & Co. Inc., San Francisco. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in computer science from MIT, Lefkof received an master's in business administration from the Harvard Business School. Lefkof will report to John V. Roach, chairman and chief executive officer of Tandy Corp., GRiD's parent company. Tandy acquired GRiD as a wholly owned subsidiary in July 1988.
GRiD manufactures and markets a comprehensive range of battery-powered laptop computers, industry-standard desktop computers, application software, software development tools, portable peripherals and electronic mail/networking systems.
