Hundreds of New Products Await Attendees at SD ’97 in D.C.

SAN FRANCISCO — September 3, 1997 — Miller Freeman Inc.'s Software Development Conference & Show Group (SDCG) is gearing up for Software Development '97 (SD '97), the industry's most significant software development show, taking place in Washington, D.C., from Sept. 29 – Oct. 3, 1997.

SD '97 will provide a forum for over 250 of the world's leading software development companies who will be showcasing the latest Java, C++, Windows, UNIX, and Visual Basic technology solutions for developers, team leaders, and software consultants.

A recent Survey of Software Development 1997 Attendees conducted by Market Perspectives, Inc. and published by International Data Corp. (IDC) indicated that "90% of SD '97 attendees are involved in the purchase process, and nearly one out of five attendees actually authorizes purchases."

According to the report, "a large majority of attendee organizations are investing in languages for developing distributed applications, particularly C++ and Java," and "the top software development challenges among attendees during the coming year are improving usability via GUIs (40%), developing/delivering new Internet applications (37%), and improving software delivery time (36%)."

"Software Development 1997 offers the opportunity to look at the current and future use of software development technologies," said Steve McClure, Director Internet Tools at IDC. "Software vendors that can help developers improve usability, provide tools for developing and delivering new Internet/intranet applications, and shorten software delivery cycles will find a resonant audience in this group."

This year's show features hundreds of key announcements and product news from leading vendors including: updates on JBuilder and Visual dBASE7 from Borland International, a look at the new Windows, ActiveX and Java tools from KL Group, MS Windows CE Toolkits for Visual C++ 5.0, Visual Basic 5.0 and Visual J++ 1.1 from Microsoft, upgrades to Symantec's Java development tools, and several new product announcements from Sun Microsystems.(a)

"The product news at this year's show promises to be tremendously exciting," said Eric Faurot, Director of SD '97. "IDC's survey confirms that SD is the show that brings software development tool vendors together with an audience that is eager to explore and ready to purchase the cutting edge products and solutions that are being showcased."
