John Kelly Assumes New Marketing Responsibilities

NEW YORK — September 12, 1994 — Bob Sherwood, vice president, Sound Technology, Marketing, Sony Software, today announced that John Kelly, Director of Marketing for Sound Technology, Marketing, Sony Software, will assume all marketing responsibilities for software applications developed by Sony for personal communicators using General Magic's Magic Cap(tm) operating systems. Kelly will continue to report to Bob Sherwood.

The establishment of a focal marketing entity for General Magic software applications is part of Sony's long-term strategy in regard to its investment in General Magic.

"As personal communicators rapidly approach the consumer market, it makes sense to put the marketing efforts in the hands of someone like John who can focus on it exclusively," said Sherwood. "John's ability to handle third party issues and his experience in working closely with Sony's own electronics and software companies makes his appointment especially appropriate."

Reporting to Kelly will be Sony Software's Monterey, Calif.-based development team for the General Magic platform headed by Paul Lindhardt.

Sony has developed several applications for the Magic Cap operating system, including Spellfinder and a service based on the Official Airlines Guide. Other applications are in development.

The General Magic consortium is a group of companies that includes Sony, Matsushita, Philips, Apple, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Nippon Telephone & Telegraph, AT&T, France Telecom and Motorola. Sound Technology, Marketing is a division of Sony Software Corp., a subsidiary of Sony Corp. of America.

Prior to joining Sony, Kelly had been a senior sales representative for Prodigy Services Co. where he was responsible for market development of Prodigy's proprietary business-to-business services. He also managed Prodigy's on-line travel applications.
