Lachman Technology to Port General Magic’s Telescript Engine
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — January 6, 1994 — Lachman Technology, a market leading supplier of communications software and services to the open systems computing industry, and General Magic, announced an agreement Thursday.
As part of the agreement, Lachman and General Magic will participate in joint development and marketing activities aimed at moving General Magic's Telescript technology to many hardware platforms. Telescript is a programming language which allows diverse types of computers and personal communicators (often called PDA's), to all work together.
"Market acceptance of Telescript depends in large part on there being implementations on many different systems," said Marc Porat, chairman and CEO of General Magic. "Lachman's extensive experience at moving open technologies to new platforms makes them an ideal partner for us."
"When Sun Microsystems first introduced its NFS architecture, Lachman played a key role by implementing it on over 25 different systems," said Ron Lachman, president of Lachman Technology. "We look forward to playing a similar role with General Magic. Telescript and Magic Cap provide the missing ingredients that will cause the PDA market to really take off.
"We're thrilled to be a part of it and are planning additional product ideas based on General Magic's core technologies."
Hardware and software companies can contract with Lachman to deliver fully operational implementations of Telescript on their systems.
Lachman Technology provides Client/Server networking and data management software to the open systems market. Lachman also provides project implementation services to companies with open systems requirements. The company employs more than 60 people and has revenues of $10 million. Lachman Technology has headquarters at 1901 N. Naper Blvd., Naperville, Ill. 60563-8895; telephone: 708/505-9555; fax: 708/505-9574.
