LG Electronics Displays Handheld Personal Computer with Built-In 28.8 Modem and 8MB Flash ROM at PC EXPO
NEW YORK — June 17, 1997 — LG Electronics Inc. today shows off its advanced handheld personal computer — the LG Phenom. The LG Phenom, LG Electronics' offering that harnesses the power of the Windows CE operating system from Microsoft(R) Corporation, is equipped with a built-in 28.8 kbps internal fax/modem and 4MB RAM. 8MB Flash ROM is also provided to allow users to easily upgrade to future versions of Windows CE.
Designed to fit comfortably in the palm of the user's hand, the LG Phenom weighs less than 12 ounces (340 grams) and measures only 6.45 inches by 3.76 inches by 1 inch (168 x 98 x 28.5 mm). With the inclusion of the Windows CE operating system and pocket versions of Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel, it captures the look, feel and functionality of Windows 95, the world's most widely used PC operating system, in a highly portable size.

Companion to Desktop PC
With Windows CE, the user can transfer Windows 95 files from the Desktop PC to the LG Phenom by using the included serial cable. In addition, all contacts, calendar entries, and tasks will be automatically synchronized with the Desktop Personal Information Manager whenever the user connects to the PC.
Under the Hood
The LG Phenom is powered by a 32-bit SuperH RISC CPU. The unit also comes with a built-in rechargeable battery system with two Ni-MH rechargeable batteries included in the basic package configuration. Availability, Price Commercial quantities of the LG Phenom were released in the United States in June 1997. The LG Phenom will be available at computer specialty stores and other retail outlets for an estimated retail price of $549.00. The unit with a built-in 28.8 kbps modem will retail for an estimated price of $699.00.
LG Electronics is currently developing an advance features unit specifically targeted toward the true mobile professional which will contain a built-in wireless communication solution. LG Electronics is anticipating a ship date of fourth quarter for this product.
