Louis Panetta Promoted to President of Fujitsu Personal Systems

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — July 15, 1996 — The board of directors of Fujitsu Personal Systems, Inc. has named Louis Panetta president and chief operating officer and appointed him to the board of directors.

"Fujitsu Personal Systems revenue has reached milestone profitability, with revenue growth of over 150 percent in the past year, and is solidly positioned as the market leader in handheld computers for mobile workers," said Akio Hanada, chairman of the board of Fujitsu Personal Systems. "These significant achievements are a result of Panetta's ability to provide leadership and market vision to the company."

"Fujitsu Personal Systems' strategy of focusing on key vertical markets, where tablet computers have shown the best utility, has worked phenomenally well," said Panetta. "We're now delivering our sixth generation handheld computer designed for these markets. As large companies implement programs to move enterprise information closer to the source — in the hands of workers on the move — Fujitsu will be there with the right product."

For the last three months, Panetta served as Fujitsu's chief operating officer. Prior to that he was executive vice president. Panetta is a native of Rochester, New York, and graduated from Niagara University with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics. He has held management positions in marketing, sales and customer service with GRiD Systems and Faraday Electronics. Before joining Fujitsu in 1992, Panetta was vice president of sales for Novell, Inc.

Fujitsu Personal Systems, Inc. is a market-leading supplier of lightweight handheld computer systems that run Microsoft Windows 95. Fujitsu's powerful portable computers use a pen instead of a keyboard and mouse to navigate and input data. Insurance companies, sales force automation, healthcare, market research firms and utilities leverage Fujitsu's "clipboard computers" to bring enterprise-wide computing to a highly mobile work force.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu, Ltd., with headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif., (408/982-9500) and sales offices throughout North America, Europe and Australia. Product information is available at 800-831-3183 or http://www.fpsi.fujitsu.com.
