Metrowerks Adds CodeWarrior Support for Three Processor Families
AUSTIN, Texas — March 4, 1999 — Metrowerks Inc., (NASDAQ:MTWKF) (TSE:MWK) (ME:MWK) today announced it has added support for three new microprocessor families to its line of CodeWarrior development tools.
CodeWarrior now supports the Hitachi SH-4, the Motorola M-Core, and the NEC V850 processor families, in addition to the five already supported within CodeWarrior which include PowerPC, MIPS, x86, 68K, and NEC's family of microprocessors.
These newly supported processor families are used in a wide range of high-growth markets. The Hitachi SH-4 series of microprocessors is used in consumer markets for such products as sub-notebook PCs, set top boxes, and game consoles including the Sega Dreamcast(tm). The Motorola M-Core family of microprocessors is used in advanced digital pagers, portable global positioning systems, and low-power cellular phones such as the Motorola iDEN(R) phone. The NEC V850 family of microprocessors is designed for such products as low-power cellular phones, handheld PCs, and other portable and wireless communication devices.
Metrowerks is adding CodeWarrior support for development of devices based on these processor families for developers using commercial real-time operating systems (RTOSs). RTOS support for these processors will be announced as that support becomes available over the coming months.
"The addition of these three microprocessor families greatly increases the breadth of our product offering, giving developers more choices," said Jean Belanger, chairman and chief executive officer, Metrowerks. "We carefully designed CodeWarrior to more easily add support for new microprocessors and will continue to expand that support over the coming months."
