Metrowerks Tools to Support Next Generation Palm OS 5 Devices Based On ARM Core Technology

AUSTIN, Texas — October 22, 2002 — Helping application developers smooth their transition to Palm OS(R) 5, Metrowerks' next version of its CodeWarrior(TM) tools for the Palm OS platform will support application development for next generation Palm Powered(TM) handhelds that contain processors from Motorola, Intel and Texas Instruments based on ARM(R) core technology.

CodeWarrior Development Studio for Palm OS Platform, Version 9.0, will enable developers to build Palm OS 5 applications with support for 68K processors and ARM code development. The toolset will include ARMlet support with sample projects, C++ Object Library for Palm OS (POL), command line tools, application wizards, third party Palm OS utilities, and more.

"We are excited to see Metrowerks embrace Palm OS 5 and pleased to see a new version of CodeWarrior tools that will empower the growing community of Palm OS developers," said Steve Sakoman, chief product officer, PalmSource Inc. "Metrowerks' leadership in mobile and wireless tools, and their support for the newest OS, is fundamental for both developers and for the platform."

The newest version of the CodeWarrior toolset for the Palm OS platform is designed to further advance the capabilities of mobile application developers by providing a significantly improved toolset and a framework that includes a number of reusable objects to reduce time to market.

"CodeWarrior has been the most popular development tool for professional Palm OS developers since the platform was created. The new release will allow developers to migrate applications to Palm OS 5 with ease," said John Smolucha, vice president of marketing, Metrowerks. "CodeWarrior provides the most comprehensive C/C++ tool suite for building feature rich Palm OS applications, and our broad SDK support makes it a one-stop shop for Palm OS application development."

According to a report from industry research firm Gartner Group, 80 percent of all Palm OS applications are built with Metrowerks' CodeWarrior development tools.

Palm OS developers will be able to access free, instructor-led programming courses on using CodeWarrior tools for the Palm OS platform, as well as courses on C programming and other topics, at Metrowerks' CodeWarriorU.com site at www.codewarrioru.com/ .

CodeWarrior Development Studio for Palm OS Platform, Professional Edition, Version 9, is expected to be available by early December. Metrowerks will accept pre-orders in the first week of November. For more information please visit www.metrowerks.com/products/palm .
