Microsoft Chooses Metrowerks to Co-Develop and Market Macintosh Version of SourceSafe

AUSTIN, Texas — April 10, 1995 — Powerful cross-platform source-code management system to be provided by Metrowerks on Macintosh in CodeWarrior.

Metrowerks Inc. and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT) announced today their agreement for Metrowerks to co-develop and market the Macintosh version of SourceSafe, the cross-platform source-code management system by Microsoft.

This wide-ranging agreement made possible through a letter of intent recently signed by both companies will provide strong, cross-platform source-code support for the Macintosh software industry by creating a powerful link between Code Warrior, the industry standard in development tools on Macintosh, and SourceSafe, the cross-platform industry standard for source-code control and management from Microsoft.

Under this agreement, Metrowerks will be responsible for all Macintosh-related engineering and marketing activities and will provide both engineering resources for the stand-alone version of SourceSafe as well as an important engineering effort to implement SourceSafe support into Metrowerks' new object-oriented version of the popular development environment, CodeWarrior, scheduled for release later this year.

The products, to be marketed under the brand names Metrowerks SourceSafe and CodeWarrior SourceSafe, will be introduced later this year. Metrowerks and Microsoft will work together to validate cross-platform compatibility with each subsequent release of SourceSafe therefore providing true cross-platform source-code management on Windows, Macintosh and Unix platforms.

"Partnering with Metrowerks, a leader in Macintosh development tools, to create a rich, compatible Macintosh product will provide a great solution for developers doing multi-platform development," said Roger Heinen, senior vice president of development tools at Microsoft.

"We are extremely pleased to be working with Microsoft to provide source-code management software on 68K and Power Macintosh. Having versions of SourceSafe for the Macintosh development platform that can inter-operate with versions from Microsoft for Windows 3.1, Windows-NT and Windows 95 or from MainSoft for Unix, is a definite advantage in today's heterogeneous operating environment," said Greg Galanos, President and CEO of Metrowerks Inc.

"Our customers have requested this functionality for a long time. We're providing the best solution possible by working closely with Microsoft to provide a coherent, cross-platform no-nonsense approach. We believe that this solution will provide CodeWarrior users with the best, most complete Macintosh-hosted development environment that money can buy." Pricing and Availability

Metrowerks SourceSafe will be priced at US$ 499 for a single-user license and is intended for use with non-CodeWarrior development environments on both the 68K and Power Macintosh.
