Microsoft Goes Wireless With Canadian Software Developer; Wireless Access for Windows CE to Exchange Server Now Possible

BURNABY, British Columbia — January 13, 1997 — A Burnaby-based company is celebrating the successful completion of a software development effort with Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT). Infowave Wireless Messaging Inc. has created Infowave CE, software which provides wireless access for Windows CE, Microsoft's new operating system. Infowave CE was recently demonstrated at COMDEX in Las Vegas during the Windows CE keynote address by Bill Gates, Microsoft's Chairman and CEO.

"We're extremely excited by the opportunities now possible through Infowave's two-way messaging software for Windows CE," says Jon Magill, Microsoft's Director of Marketing, Consumer Appliance Group. "Infowave's wireless enabling software and Windows CE allow handheld computing to expand to its full potential for business users."

Infowave's innovative software lets Windows CE users send and receive corporate email, internet email, send faxes and receive web pages — all wirelessly.

"With Infowave CE as the client, and Infowave Update as the server, talking to corporate email systems becomes seamless. Users maintain their existing In-Box and Folders. The implications for corporate users are significant," says Rob Boyko, Infowave's Vice President, Sales and Marketing. "Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and cc:Mail, Netscape Mail, and Novell Groupwise users now have cost effective, wireless, real time connectivity."

Infowave CE is the first of several key product releases scheduled for Q1, 1997. Says Boyko, "Our corporate solutions are just starting to come on line, and the response from customers has been terrific. We expect strong sales throughout 1997 from our corporate products in addition to continued growth in our OEM software business."

Infowave makes client and server software on an OEM basis for approximately 75% of the wireless service providers in North America such as Wynd Communications and DTS Wireless.

Infowave Wireless Messaging Inc. is one of North America's leading providers of wireless enabling software. In addition to Microsoft, the Company's corporate partners include Megahertz (US Robotics), Cantel/AT&T, Ram Mobile Data, IBM and Ericsson.
