Mitsubishi Electric Joins General Magic Alliance

TOKYO — November 30, 1994 — Mitsubishi Electric Corp. Wednesday announced it will join the General Magic Alliance and make an investment in General Magic Inc.

Mitsubishi has also been licensed to use the company's Magic Cap software, which includes Telescript technology to access Telescript networks.

"As a member of the General Magic Alliance as well as an investor, Mitsubishi Electric will play a key role in defining and building the hardware products, value-added services and content businesses for tomorrow's digital superhighway," said Yoshito (Super) Yamaguchi, managing director, Multimedia Business Development, Mitsubishi Electric Corp.

"The Alliance expands Mitsubishi Electric's solid base of expertise in consumer electronics, communications, information processing and semiconductors into software and services and allows the company to develop products and services based on what we believe will become an industry standard."

According to Yamaguchi, "The vision of the digital superhighway will only evolve if the myriad of products and services can work together in an intelligent way. To do so they need to be "open" and standardized. Alliances are crucial to the growth of standardization in this marketplace."

Magic Cap and Telescript technologies are designed for personal intelligent communication products and services. The Magic Cap software offers an easy-to-use interface and allows developers to build a new class of communicating applications.

The Magic Cap environment includes everything people need to interact through today's popular modes of communication: fax, electronic mail services, and telephones. Telescript is a breakthrough communication technology that enables people to send electronic agents into the worldwide grid of information highways. These agents will navigate through multiple networks and across diverse computer systems to perform tasks for their owners.

Mitsubishi Electric plans to utilize the Magic Cap platform in personal intelligent communication products, which will allow access to a wide range of Telescript-based services including AT&T PersonalLink Services.
