MobileWare Corporation Announces Unix Server Support
PLANO, Texas — May 20, 1997 — MobileWare Corporation, the technology leader in wireless data networking solutions, today announced WebMirror Communications Server v5.0 with support for all major versions of Unix and Windows NT.
New features of WebMirror Communications Server v5.0 include a fully scalable server that can support up to 500,000 users, a new generic client architecture, Windows CE client support, SNMP management console, enhanced integration with Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator v4.0 and added support for IMAP4 and LDAP.
The new generic client architecture breaks the traditional limitations of a client/server system, allowing a single client software image to connect to any WebMirror v5.0 server and authenticate upon initial connection. This new client architecture opens up numerous opportunities previously unavailable to client/server systems. WebMirror clients could now be pre-installed on notebook computers and PDAs or distributed on a variety of media. The WebMirror CE client is designed around the philosophy of using a CE device as an integrated companion with existing computer platforms, rather than the traditional approach of replacing notebooks or desktop computers. The CE client will use intelligent agents to manage information flow and activities between the user s handheld device and their personal computer. This implementation allows the user to achieve total information access in the most convenient manner possible.
Included with the WebMirror v5.0 server will be full integration with SNMP, providing remote management capability. In addition to an SNMP management interface, WebMirror will offer a browser management interface. This, in combination with WebMirror s wireless data capabilities, will provide MIS managers powerful mobile network management of their WebMirror servers.
Together, these features make WebMirror Communications Server v5.0 the perfect solution for ISPs and telecommunications companies that would like to offer customers a cost-effective and reliable means for wireless Web access and e-mail. Corporations that wish to implement their own WebMirror server also will have more flexibility given the choice of platform and scalability of the server.
"With competition heating up in the Internet access market, carriers are seeking value-added technologies to differentiate themselves from their competitors," said Jack Blount, president and CEO of MobileWare Corporation. "By implementing a WebMirror solution on their existing infrastructure, telcos and ISPs will be able to meet the growing demand for both remote and wireless access to the Internet."
WebMirror Communications Server v5.0 will be demonstrated at COMDEX/Fall 97, November 17 21 in Las Vegas.
Availability
WebMirror Communications Server v5.0 for Sun Solaris and Windows NT 4.0 will be available in the fourth quarter of 1997. Support for Digital Unix, HP UX, IBM AIX and Windows NT 5.0 will all ship in the first quarter of 1998.
